Subaru Check Engine Light Tips

Is your Check Engine light on?

This is an important function of your car, it's built in to help you keep your car reliable and an indication that something is not operating as it was designed.

Generally, if the lamp color is amber, it's a warning that a feature is not operating properly, but you should be able to operate your car without an issue. It's best to get it checked out as soon as it's convenient. If the lamp color is red, this indicates a potentially serious condition that needs immediate attention. You should seek assistance from our Tampa Subaru repair department as soon as possible, likewise, if you are traveling, you should look for the nearest Subaru dealer for assistance.

You can have 2 different indications.

  • Flashing Check Engine light: This is an indicator that you need to get your car to us as soon as is practical. The issue needs to be resolved to prevent damage over time. Your cruise control will also be disabled at this point.
  • Solid Check Engine light: This is an indication that there is an issue but it's not urgent. It could be as simple as the gas cap not being on correctly. If the lamp stays on after several trips, it needs attention when convenient. Your cruise control will also be disabled until the issue is resolved and the system is reset.

Your Check Engine light is connected to many functions. We have special diagnostic tools that "talk" to your car and determine where the issue is.
